A linoprint, or linoblock print is a form of relief printmaking much like the potato prints we made as children. The image or design that you want to print is carved (in reverse) into a sheet of artist's linoleum. Once the image is completed, ink is rolled in a very thin layer on to the top of the lino. All the areas that have been carved away will not print. A sheet of paper is then lowered onto the inked block of linoleum and rubbed through the back to transfer the ink from the block to the paper. In the case of multi colored linoprints this process is repeated for each color. Special care has to be taken to place the paper in the exact position for each color, so they will register with each other. These beautiful hand pulled prints are all printed in very small editions. |
